PRUNE ORANGE & CARDAMON PORRIDGE

This really warmed me up. Well that and a hot water bottle strapped around my kidneys with a big scarf – no heating at the moment. It is the perfect season for warm porridge, and if you have digestive challenges, blend it!

Ayurveda recognises that each season requires a slightly different approach to food, with autumn heading into winter requiring us to eat warm, unctuous, protein rich stews and porridge’s.

This porridge isn’t protein rich, so I would advise vata types to have an egg on the side, or add in 1/2 cup of ground almonds.

INGREDIENTS (per person)
1/3 cup oats groats (if Kapha type and feeling a bit flat use millet or buckwheat)
8 times the amount of water
1 small sweet orange
1 teaspoon freshly ground cardamon
Pinch of cinnamon
Raw honey if you need a sweetener

METHOD
I use a slow cooker, but you could cook the night before on the cooker. I put the oats groats into the slow cooker with the water and Cardamon on low, then in the morning added the other ingredients.

Baked squash, beets, ginger tamari chard, warm hummus, kale pesto, hazelnut dukkah
Butternut squash with beetroot & quinoa
